What is a Hernia?

A hernia is mechanical bulge or swelling emanating from the abdominal cavity coming through a natural area of muscular weakness. We all have such areas of weakness, some worse than others.

Hernias are usually brought on sooner by a job or physical activity that requires lots of straining your abdominal muscles.

Imagine your abdomen as a tire and the lining of your abdomen as an inner tube. If the pressure is high enough the lining (and whatever is inside it) can push through an area of weakness just like a tear in the tire causing a hernia.
